How CPAClub Is Tackling Accounting’s Broken Training Model

Young Staff Mobile Training Model
Published on13 July 2026

Earlier, we wrote about a training model problem the accounting profession has avoided facing for years. The way firms train their people hasn’t kept pace with how people actually learn, and AI is quietly removing the on the job reps that used to teach judgment by default. We said we were committed to finding solutions, not just naming problems.

Today we can share more about what that commitment looks like in practice.

CPAClub’s technology division (CPATech) is built to design and deliver the next generation of tools for accounting firms. CPATech exists to complement everything CPAClub already provides through advisory, quality management, and talent solutions for our Passholders. Combined, the goal is simple. Give firms the products and the people they need to strengthen quality, improve operational efficiency, and build the kind of future readiness the profession is going to need in the years ahead.

The first product coming out of CPATech is an application purpose built to fix the training problem we described last month. Here are five things firms should know about what we’re building.

1. It’s Not Trying to Be Another CPE Provider

The CPE market isn’t short on options. Firms can already choose from webinars, self-study courses, podcasts, and in person conferences, and plenty of those options are genuinely convenient. Convenient was never the problem we set out to solve.

What’s missing isn’t more ways to earn credit hours. It’s a way to actually build skill while earning them. CPAClub’s application isn’t competing on convenience. It’s competing on whether staff walk away from a learning session actually better at their jobs, not just closer to a compliance requirement.

2. It’s Built Like the Learning Apps People Actually Use, Not the Ones They Tolerate

Think about the daily habit apps, like Duolingo, that have quietly reshaped how millions of people learn a language or build a new skill. Short daily sessions. Active participation instead of passive watching. Progress you can see and feel building over time.

CPAClub’s application applies that same design philosophy to accounting. Users work through interactive scenarios and knowledge checks rather than sitting through lectures, and the sessions are built to fit into a few minutes a day rather than a few days a year. As far as we know, this makes it the first application of its kind to combine genuinely interactive, technology enabled training with real CPE credit in a single experience.

3. It’s Built Around the Whole Professional, Not Just the Technical Checklist

Technical competency matters, but it isn’t the only thing that determines whether someone thrives in this profession. The application includes a set of features designed to support the person behind the professional.

  • Tech Tips — practical AI tips and smarter workflows for modern accounting professionals
  • PTO Pause — pause a learning streak and step away without losing momentum while recharging
  • Crew Care — mental health, wellness, and personal growth content built for accounting professionals
  • Brain Breaks — quick trivia, mini games, and lighter content that keeps learning engaging instead of exhausting

None of these features exist because they’re trendy. They exist because sustainable learning habits require more than technical content. People need permission to step away without guilt, support for their wellbeing, and moments of lightness built into a profession that doesn’t always make room for it.

4. Firms Get Visibility Into Staff Development They’ve Never Had Before

Every interaction inside the application generates information about where a professional is strong and where they’re struggling. Over time, that builds into something genuinely useful for firm leadership. Instead of guessing which staff need additional support, or waiting for a performance review to surface a gap, firms can see it developing in real time.

That visibility matters because adaptability is going to define which firms succeed over the next decade. The firms that can identify a skill gap early and respond with targeted, in person coaching where it’s actually needed will build stronger teams than firms relying on a one size fits all annual training calendar. Daily engagement is what makes that kind of adaptive, ongoing insight possible in the first place.

5. A Premium Option Brings National Office Coaching Within Reach of Every Firm

The application itself will be priced in line with the CPE platforms and tools firms already budget for. But because this comes from CPAClub, there’s a premium tier that goes further, layering in live coaching, mentoring, and personalized guidance from experienced CPAClub professionals alongside the app based learning.

For midsized and smaller firms, this matters more than it might initially seem. Building an internal mentoring program with the depth and consistency of a large national office takes resources most firms don’t have to spare. This premium option gives their staff access to that same caliber of coaching and development at a fraction of the cost, while giving firm leadership the confidence that their people are being genuinely cared for and developed, without having to build that infrastructure themselves.

Where This Training Model Is Headed

None of this replaces the value of real engagements, real clients, and real in-field experience. It’s meant to supplement it. Paired with the hands-on learning that still matters most, an application like this is designed to help firms develop higher quality talent faster, strengthen retention, and build the kind of bench strength that drives long term growth.

A few things worth remembering as this comes together.

  • The problem isn’t a lack of CPE options, it’s a lack of engagement and retention
  • Daily, active, habit forming learning consistently outperforms passive formats
  • Wellbeing and technical development aren’t separate goals, they reinforce each other
  • Visibility into staff development lets firms be proactive instead of reactive
  • Smaller and midsized firms stand to gain the most from access they couldn’t otherwise build on their own

The release of the first market-ready version of this application is anticipated for Summer 2026.
